Convalescent Aid Society has been helping improve the quality of
life in Pasadena and its
neighboring communities through the free loan of wheelchairs
and other medical equipment for in-home use since 1923. Presently we are serving over
10,000 clients. We not only loan wheelchairs but a host of other
medical equipment.
We bring together
a caring community where you will meet those who need the medical
equipment we offer and the generous friends who donate both needed
items and funds so we can serve more families. Over the years, we
have expanded our service
area from Pasadena to the wider San Gabriel Valley, plus Glendale,
Burbank and parts of Los Angeles.
We loan medical
equipment
for FREE!
To
arrange a loan for wheelchairs and other medical equipment for free,
contact us at (626)793-1696 or email us at info@cas1.org.
Or you may
visit our office for more information and to complete a simple
application at 3255 East Foothill Boulevard, Pasadena, CA 91107.
Office hours
are from Tuesdays to Fridays, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
The top three most-requested
items in our warehouse include: lightweight wheelchairs of all sizes,
transport wheelchairs, and rollator walkers (lightweight walkers
with seats and brakes).
See
our comprehensive sample listing of medical equipment here.
We will always do
our best to keep the items you need in stock. Most items are readily
available for same-day pick up but some items may not be immediately
available. We recommend that you call prior to coming by the office
to pick up equipment to check on availability. Equipment items can
be placed on "hold" for up to 48 hours for client pick-up.
How
do I qualify for CAS' free loan of wheelchairs and other medical
equipment?
There are only two
qualifications. First, you have to live within our service
area. That's the cities in the San Gabriel Valley, from the
foothills to the north and along the 60 freeway to the south, Glendora
and West Covina to the east or west to the neighboring cities of
Glendale, Burbank, La Crescenta.
The second
qualification: the equipment is ONLY for in-home use. That means
it SHOULD NOT be used for skilled nursing facilities, nursing homes,
assisted living centers, convalescent homes, etc. Please call us
if you have any questions.
You will be required
to complete a brief
application online or when you come to our office to pick it
up.
Are
there ever any charges or service fees?
None. You will never
be charged or given an invoice for using our equipment. We even
repair items on-site in our warehouse at no cost to users. We do
ask that you take tender, loving care of the equipment you receive
and bring it back when you are finished. (A nominal Delivery Charge
of $25 is requested for equipment deliveries.)
How
can you afford to loan wheelchairs and all that other stuff for
free?
We can provide
our services at no cost through the generosity of our donors. CAS
is funded entirely by private donations, bequests and endowments
which allows us to provide our services at absolutely no cost.
How
do I donate to the work of CAS?
CAS is not not immune
to the economic crisis that has hit the nation. In order to continue
serving over 10,000 clients, staff hours and pay have been drastically
reduced. This is why your donations at this time are vitally
important.
You may simply write
a check for any amount and mail it to our office. Visit our Donor
page and see the creative ways that individuals, businesses
and churches have raised money. Visit the Donor
Application page for more details about turning in your donation.
We also accept donations of used medical equipment. Your donations
at this time are vitally important.
You may choose to
give a gift of stock or ask that CAS be included in your estate
plan. Please contact Randy
Votsch, our agency administrator, for answers to specific questions.
Here are the many
creative ways how you can help with our work at CAS:
- Become
a regular donor---it helps keep our doors open and our services
free!
- Donate new
& used medical equipment--- wheelchairs, walkers, hospital
beds, etc.
- Volunteer
your time as a member of the CAS Volunteer Corps
Donate your used car, truck, or boat to CAS via Cars 4 Causes
(www.Cars4Causes.net)
- Remember
CAS through your estate plan---make a long-lasting impact on the
future of CAS by including CAS in your estate plan.
- Tell others
about our services. You can refer them to us or ask agency administrator
Randy Votsch to speak to your business group, community gathering
or church fellowship.
Another way you can
help is by purchasing tickets to our annual Concerts Under the
Stars. You can choose from 3 evenings. Each evening features
a different kind of music. Each ticket entitles you to a wonderful
dinner under the stars. Some events offer dancing. All of them are
very romantic.
Read
the write-up and view photos of last year's concert. Call our
office and reserve your tickets now!
Who
are the people behind CAS?
Our staff are always
ready to greet you and to help you find the items you need. They
maintain and repair returned equipment and deliver larger items
from our warehouse to local homes.
Randy Votsch is the
executive director of Convalescent Aid Society. Randy personally
knows the value of CAS after caring for his grandmother. "It
was important for my grandmother to stay in her own home while convalescing
- a source of comfort and emotional strength," he says. Randy
is available to speak to local community groups on the impact CAS
has on the lives of people who are served.
